“The Snowbasin Alpine Team is the racing organization of the Ogden Valley Winter Sports Foundation also known as the Snowbasin Ski Education Foundation (SSEF); a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of young ski racers. The Alpine Team provides a fun, yet challenging way for young men and women to improve their skiing and to develop skills and discipline that will provide lifelong enjoyment of an active outdoor life.”

Ogden, UT (June 7, 2010) – Gordon A. Perry, former Canadian ski team member and a multiple national champion in the sport of Alpine Ski Racing, has been selected as the new Program Director for (SSEF.)  Perry’s extensive background and experience, both locally and worldwide, has been instrumental in successfully bringing NCAA student athletes to both individual and national team titles.

Perry served as Head NCAA Ski Coach at the University of Utah (1990-1994) and under his direction successfully coached; 1993 NCAA Champions, 5 Individual National Champions, and 24 All-Americans.

Most recently, Perry lent his expertise in building Westminster College’s new ski program in Salt Lake City. “In just two short years, 2 national championship teams and 4 individual national champions at the USCSA level were achieved,” states Perry.

According to Dr. Jeff Harrison, SSEF President, “A Program Director Selection Committee was formed by the Board of Directors for the purpose of soliciting applications, searching for candidates, reviewing credentials, interviewing candidates and finally to provide the Board with recommendation(s) of the most well-suited Program Director for (SSEF).”

“The high quality of all candidates made the process of recommending a single candidate for the position a challenging task, said Harrison. “However, Gordon A. Perry stood out among the candidates based on his breadth of skills, his resources, and his exemplary qualifications for the technical, social, political and fund-raising aspects of the job.”

Harrison continued, “Gordon has an extensive history in ski racing, an impressive list of credentials, and is the perfect person to catapult our program into the future.  He conveys an impeccable record of running ski education programs, and is very enthusiastic and motivated to assume the role of Program Director.”

Harrison, an Orthopedic Surgeon and a U.S. Ski Team Physician,  is responsible for starting and subsidizing a Wednesday night ski program at Wolf Mountain for beginner ski racers, and also worked diligently towards the creation of the Ogden Valley Ski Academy at Snowcrest Jr. High in Eden.

He has served on the SSEF Board for 2 years and looks forward to building onto Snowbasin’s long and well known ski racing heritage that began in the 1940’s.
