OVST Program Specifics

 

DEVO PROGRAMS

Devo Snowbasin All- Stars: sponsored by the Ogden Valley Winter Sports Foundation. – The program introduces children to basic ski techniques and skills, basic safety rules, and teamwork. Enjoyment of the sport and the mountain environment is also emphasized. The program is aligned with the USSA Training Systems including, Long Term Athlete Development Model, Alpine Training System and the Skills Quest Program. Focus is put on developing skills to ski on all terrain, in all conditions and most of all, have fun on skis! 

 The Ogden Valley Ski League also introduces children to competition. These events, held at the club, with opportunity to compete in divisional competitions, provide young skiers the opportunity to test the skills they have learned in the program in a fun and friendly environment. The emphasis in competition is placed on individual progress, team results, camaraderie, and fair play.

Devo Race Team: Devo Race Team – In addition to the Saturday Devo All Stars or Devo Club this will Include Sunday and 1 evening a week (by invitation or coach evaluation/recommendation required). This program will offer opportunity for athletes to race at YSL and/or South Series events.

Base Cost $550

Devo Club Team: This program is for athletes 13 and up looking for continued development of ski fundamentals with an emphasis towards racing.  With an opportunity to compete in the OVSL.

Base Cost is $799 (includes jacket /does not include pass)

Devo Wednesday –

Wednesday at Nordic Valley – this is our introduction program that teaches young athletes basic ski fundamentals in a group environment that is fun and inviting. Includes OVSL racing at Snowbasin (passes not included)

Base Cost $450

Regional Team

U-10/U-12/-U14 Regional Team:  For 10-13 year old Alpine skiers who are committed to competing at a higher level. This team provides an introduction to away races and travel. Athletes will travel with parents. Athletes compete in the South Region of the Intermountain Division. Winter training Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Saturday and Sunday. Dryland training in the fall (October-November). 

  • Mid November – March 30th (dependent on snow conditions)
  • Tuesday evening Wolf Mt: 2.5 hours
  • Thursday evening Wolf Mt.: 2.5 hours
  • Saturday: 5 hours
  • Saturday and Sunday: 5 hours/day
  • Holidays and Christmas Camp days: 5 hours
  • Total training hours for season: 320 hours (approx.)
  • Coaching at competitions: 16-20 race days
  • Fall conditioning: 30 hours *Must carry a USSA competitors license 
  • Base Cost $ 2400
  • Note: Prices based on regular-full time tuition does not include travel, u14 series and up entry fees, academy or transportation add-ons.

 

U-14 IMD Team:  For 12-13 year old Alpine racers. Athletes compete in Intermountain Division races (North-South) traveling with parents or with team if they so choose. Winter training  Tues through Sunday. Dryland training in the fall (October-November). 

  • Mid November –March 30th
  • Three afternoons per week: 2.53 hours
  • Tues-Thurs evening option 2.5 hours
  • Saturday: 5 hours
  • Sunday: 5 hours
  • Holidays and Christmas Camp : 5 hours
  • Occasional early morning: 3 hours
  • Total training hours for season:375 hours ( Approx)
  • Coaching at competitions: 20-25 race days
  • Fall conditioning: 50 hours
  • Entry fees to scored USSA races not included
  • *Must carry a USSA competitors license 
  • Base Cost $ 2900
  • Note: Prices based on regular-full time tuition does not include travel, u14 series and up entry fees, academy or transportation add-ons.

Weekend Warriors

Ages 13 and up..For athletes looking to continue or begin exploring a race oriented program that provides structured ski and race training on Saturday and Sunday with the opportunity to race in the OVSL and South Series races. 

  • Mid November –March 30th
  • Saturday: 5 hours
  • Sunday: 5 hours
  • Holidays and Christmas Camp : 5 hours
  • Fall conditioning: 50 hours
  • Entry fees to USSA races not included
  • *Must carry a USSA competitors license 
  • Base Cost $ 1250 (includes jacket)
  • Note: Prices based on regular-full time tuition does not include travel, u14 series and up entry fees, academy or transportation add-ons.

 

U-16 IMD Team:  For 14-15 year old Alpine racers by invitation, who show desire and passion for this sport. The U-16 Team is the first year-round team and the travel/training commitment is significantly greater than the U-14 Team. They will travel within the Intermountain Division (ID, UT, WY), and Western Region when applicable, in vans with the team and coaches, or with parents. Winter training Tuesday through Sunday. Year-round conditioning program and summer camp training opportunities. 

  • Mid November – April 7th
  • Tues-Fri: 2.5-3 hours
  • Saturday: 5 hours
  • Sunday: 5 hours
  • Holidays and Christmas camp days: 5 hours
  • Occasional early morning: 2 hours
  • Total training hours for season: 450 hours ( approx)
  • Coaching at competitions: 25-40 race days
  • conditioning: 90 hours
  • *Must carry a USSA competitors license 
  • Base Cost $4400
  • Note: Prices based on regular-full time tuition does not include travel, u14 series and up entry fees, academy or transportation add-ons.

 

U-18 IMD Team:  For Alpine racers 16 to 17 who will race in the Intermountain Division and Western Region, as well as FIS races for which they qualify. Athletes travel in vans with the team and coaches to competitions. Winter training Tuesday through Sunday.  Year-round conditioning program and summer camp training opportunities. 

  • Tue – Fri: 3-5 hours
  • Saturday: 5 hours
  • Sunday: 5 hours
  • Holidays and Christmas camp days: 5 hours
  • Occasional early morning: 2 hours
  • Total training hours for season: 450 hours ( approx)
  • Coaching at competitions: 25-40 race days
  • conditioning: 90 hours
  • *Must carry a USSA competitors license

FIS Team:  For Alpine racers 16 and older who have qualified by criteria or been invited by the coaches to ski at the FIS (international) racing level.  They will travel anywhere.  Year-round training and travel program. Early November – April 15th

  • Tue – Fri: 3-5 hours
  • Saturday: 5 hours
  • Sunday: 5 hours
  • Some Early mornings: 2 hours
  • Total training hours for season: 500 + hours
  • Coaching at competitions: 40-60 race days
  • Conditioning: 140 hours
  • Conditioning in season: 40 hours
  • *Must carry a USSA and FIS competitors license 
  • Base Cost $5800

Masters Training

If you want to improve your skiing and challenge yourself, this is the program for you. Each day session is a combination of all mountain skiing, drills, and gates. Instruction is provided by OVST coaches  Sessions will offered 2 x a week and selected weekends. Please call or email for details

Freeride and All Mountain

All Mountain – Ages 12 and up… athletes will learn to ski big mountain terrain and will have the option to compete in local big mountain.  Athletes need to be intermediate skiers and competent to ride a chairlift by themselves.  Pro-rated costs may be associated with competitions due to extra days on snow.

Base Cost $799 ( includes jacket) *Must carry a USSA membership for insurance

 

 

Freeride – Axis Freeride program.. the OV Freeride Team is a development and competitive program that encompasses slopestyle, halfpipe, and off trail freeride skiing. Freeride skiing is the fastest growing discipline within the ski industry. Freeride programs are popping up all over North America and have become the alternative to racing and freestyle. 

Coaching staff will be headed up by AxisFree Ride Mike Campbell and supported by other Axis Freeride coaches out of Park City UT. 

Athletes will train and have the opportunity to compete in all three aspects of Freeride skiing. The development side of the program will focus on strong skiing fundamentals that will help develop the basis for competition. Other focuses include jumping, avalanche safety, and a top priority of having fun!!! Athletes need to be a strong intermediate skier and be able to ski all of the terrain at Snowbasin. The program begins mid December and runs until mid March and includes a Christmas camp.  Fall dryland is available to all athletes and highly encouraged!

Alpine Glossary of Terms and Information
U Class:  Your U (Under) Class is the age group that you compete in. Each U class covers two years (except for U-21s). Your class is determined by the year you were born.  Alpine U classes are as follows:
    U-21 – ages 18-19-20 (born in 1994-1995-1996)
    U-18 – ages 16-17 (born in 1997 and 1998)
    U-16 – ages 14-15 (born in 1999 and 2000)
    U-14 – ages 12-13 (born in 2001 and 2002)
    U-12 – ages 10-11 (born in 2003 and 2004)
    U-10 – ages 7-8-9 (born in 2005-2006-2007)

 

 

2014 Summer Camps

Camp 1 – Mt. Hood Or –dates are June 2-12

U12 and up … Gordon/Florjan/Brandon – college athletes and other OVST staff depending on participation

Focus U12-U16 – Heavy emphasis on Fundamentals/Drills/Video/ Skills Quest drills and testing

U18 plus – also emphasis on ski fundamentals with additional time on gate drills – conditioning will also be a big focus for this group

Departure – June 2nd Ski June 3,4,5,6  7th Off  Ski June 8,9,10, 11  Return 12th

Activities include – hiking, trips to Hood River, swimming, dryland, rafting

Tentative cost $1200 (dependent on participation)

Confirm participation ASAP – $500 Deposit for camp due May 15th Balance due June 1st

POC Sponsorships Available for 2013-14!

Hello,

My name is Zach Clayton and I am the Marketing and Promotions Coordinator at POC Sports.  I am reaching out to inform you of a program we run at POC, the Local Talent Program (LTP).  The POC Local Talent Program is our way to promote young gravity sport athletes of tomorrow and make sure that injuries won’t stop them from reaching the top.  Our Marketing Department along with our sales force will work together toselect a group of talented young gravity sport athletes.  We choose youngsters between 12 and 18 years old who have a passion for their sport, along with the will and motivation to reach an elite level. These athletes, from all over the United States come from diverse disciplines within skiing and snowboarding.  They all have at least one thing in common, a strong will to perform. Together they make up the Local Talent Team. We sponsor their use of POC’s safety products and learn from their experiences to provide input to our product development.

For the 2013-2014 winter season, we are looking for athletes and ask that you help spread the word.  Applying for a sponsorship with POC is easy, all you have to do isvisit www.SponsorMePOC.com and fill out an application.  The application deadline is June 1st and we will not accept applications after this date, so be sure to apply ASAP.  Next year’s team will be named on July 1st

Optional - Tuition Refund Insurance Offer (All Programs):

The Ogden Valley Ski Team has an optional tuition refund insurance program if your athlete is injured or is otherwise physically unable to complete the season (i.e. family relocation, etc.).  Tuition Refund Insurance can only be purchased through online registration( or contact Susan) and prior to on-snow training. The cost of insurance is 5% of the athlete's total tuition.  A pro-rated tuition refund will be given to the family based on a percentage of missed training days using a September 1 to April 15 season.  No credits or refunds will be given for any reason if the insurance was not purchased
