Anyone looking for items left or lost at YSL Champs, please check with Canyons Guest Services (435-615-3446).  They are located on the plaza very close to where the race info tent was.

IMD Champs & Brighton Heartlauer

 On March 17-19, select Regional Team and Junior Olympic athletes aged 9-13 headed to McCall, Idaho for the Intermountain Division Championships at Brundage Mountain, skiing "kombi" on Friday, giant slalom Saturday and slalom on Sunday.  In the female J5 class, Mountain Green’s Emma Morgan placed fourteenth in both the giant slalom and slalom.  In the female J4 class, Hallie Miller placed ninth in the kombi, Katie Townsend placed thirteenth in the kombi and tenth in the slalom.  Abi Guimond placed fourth in the slalom.  In the female J3 class, Ruby Marden stepped up to the podium for the gold in the giant slalom and silver in the slalom.  Jana Robinson placed fourth in the giant slalom and seventh in the slalom.  In the male J5 class, Bridger Harrison stepped up to the podium for the silver in all three events, taking first place overall for the J5 men.  Luke Kaschmitter took the bronze in the kombi, gold in the giant slalom, and fourth place in the slalom.  Tommy Walsh placed thirteenth in the kombi and eighth in the slalom.  In the male J4 class, Liberty’s Jack Davis took bronze in both the kombi and giant slalom.  Chase Miller placed eighth in the giant slalom and fourth in the slalom.  In the male J3 class, Josh Almony took the gold in all three events.  Huntsville’s Brock Christopherson placed third in the kombi and second in the slalom.  Blake Miller placed fifth in the kombi and  second in the giant slalom.  Kyle Ahmann placed sixth, fourth and fifth in each event, respectively.


Several ski team athletes stayed closer to home and competed in the Hartlauer Memorial Race at Brighton Ski Resort for a giant slalom on Saturday and slalom on Sunday.  In the female J4 class, Bailey Anderson placed fourteenth in the giant slalom.  In the female J3 class, Rachel Lindsey took the bronze in the giant slalom and placed fourth in the slalom.  In the male J6 class, Eden’s Hampton Vandenberg took the gold in the giant slalom and Jimmy Walsh placed fourth. In the male J4 class, Hunter Young placed ninth in the giant slalom.  In the male J3 class, Matthew Lamy placed sixth in the giant slalom and tenth in the slalom.

Ogden Valley Ski Team Sees Gold

On March 3-4, the OV regional team J4 (ages 11-12) athletes participated in the Super G Camp at Snowbasin Resort. Jack Davis took home the gold both days, Cooper Harrison placed fifth both days, and Chase Miller finished sixth on Saturday.  In the male J3 (ages 13-14) class, Brock Christoperson stepped up to the podium for the gold both days, Sean Kenny finished in seventh and fifth place, and Matthew Lamy finished in ninth and seventh place.  On Sunday, Katie Townsend placed tenth and Hallie Miller finished in fifteenth place.  Also on March 3-4, the Junior Olympic team headed to Snowbird for the J3 Slaloms.  in the female J3 class, Laura Anderson finished sixteenth on Saturday and tenth on Sunday, while Ruby Marden placed twenty-first on Saturday and twentieth on Sunday.  Male J3 athletes Josh Almony, Blake Miller and Kyle Ahmann also raced.  Anderson has been selected to participate on the IMD Junior Olympic team at the Western Region Junior Championships, with Marden as first alternate.  Last weekend, the youth ski league held its championships at the Canyons in Park City.  Skiing Kombi on Friday, in the female J5 (ages 9-10) class, Mikayla Guimond placed fifteenth.  In the female J4 class, Jessi Ahmann and Savannah Larsen placed fifth and sixth respectively.  In the male J6 (age 8) class, Maddox Lister and Jimmy Walsh placed seventh and tenth respectively.  In the male J4 class, Christopher Kubic, Steven Hickman and Porter Williamsen placed ninth, tenth and thirteenth respectively.  On Saturday, skiing giant slalom, in the female J4 class, Sydney Crowton placed fourth and Jessi Ahmann placed eighth.  In the male J6 class, Hampton Vandenberg took home the gold.  In the male J5 class, Andres Torres finished in fourteenth place.  In the male J4 class, Hunter Young finished in sixth place.  Skiing slalom on Sunday, in the female J5 class, Mikayla Guimond placed seventh.  In the female J4 class, Jessi Ahmann placed fourth and Savannah Larsen finished in tenth place.  In the male J5 class, Andres Torres placed eighth.  In the male J4 class, Hunter Young placed sixth.  The Canyons race wrapped up the season for the YSL team, while the Regional athletes have one more race at Brighton, and the JO/FIS athletes still have two more races for the season.   

Ogden Valley Stepping it Up

The Ogden Valley Ski Team had a busy weekend with races at home and in Idaho.  On Saturday, February 25, the development and regional athletes had a chance to compete on their home turf at the Snowbasin Youth Ski League Giant Slalom race. In the female J6 (ages 7-8) class, Megan Lusher and Margot Mortarotti showed great improvement with sixth and thirteenth place finishes, respectively. In the male J6 class, Jimmy Walsh took a convincing fourth, while rounding out the top fifteen were Hampton Vandenberg, Mason Phillips, Gabriel Pace and Brody Lister, placing eighth, ninth, twelfth and fourteenth, respectively. In the female J5 (ages 9-10) class, Mikayla Guimond, Lily Wahlen and Pearl Marden had strong finishes, placing eleventh, thirteenth and fourteenth, respectively.  In the male J5 class, Andres Torres stepped onto the podium in second, while Levi Olsen placed sixth, Shane Petrey placed seventh, and Cooper Davis finished in eleventh place.  In the female J4 (ages 11-12) class, Jessi Ahmann struck silver, Savannah Larsen took home the bronze, Sophie Scothern placed eighth, and Kalii Caldwell, Justine Paine and Brooke Larson placed tenth, eleventh and twelfth, respectively.  In the male J4 class, Hunter Young took the bronze, Ethan D'Hulst placed seventh, Noah Poisson placed eleventh, Christopher Kubick placed twelfth and Tommy Pinkas finished in thirteenth place.  On February 24-26 at Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, Idaho for the Brendan Armstrong Memorial Intermountain Division Super Gs,  in the female J3 (ages 13-14) class, Junior Olympic athletes Ruby Marden, Laura Anderson and Jana Robinson demonstrated strong, confident skiing, with Anderson cracking the top 20 on Saturday. In the female J2 (ages 15-16) class, FIS athletes Fiona Boomer and Sabrina Esposito had solid finishes all three days.  Meanwhile, the male JO athletes were at Bogus Basin for the Trudi Bolinder Memorial Super Gs. In the male J3 class, Josh Almony and Kyle Ahmann skied confidently all three days, while FIS athletes Ryan Totman, Michael Townsend, Brian Davidson, Happy Brown, Joey Thomason and Tommy Franquelin pushed hard to keep improving their points for the season.  Brown, in particular, has seen great improvement with his positive attitude and strong drive to succeed.  Coming up March 16-18, OVST will be sending a number of athletes to the IMD Championships in McCall, Idaho.  Competing for Ogden Valley will be female J5 athletes Emma Morgan and Anne Marie Davis, female J4 athletes Hallie Miller, Abi Guimond and Katie Townsend, male J5 athletes Bridger Harrison, Luke Kaschmitter and Tommy Walsh, and male J4 athletes Jack Davis, Cooper Harrison, Chase Miller, Christian Belmont and Christian Steidinger.

Spyder order is in and will be embroidered ASAP and available for Pick up hopefully next week.  Trying to rush on the JOs racing this week.  Devo coats should be available for pick up Alpine late this week.
